Estepona: Golf Capital of Europe!
Estepona will become one of the golf capitals between March 23th and 30th, as it will host the ‘Lions European Golf & Golf Nation Club’, a charitable event that will transfer together over 150 golf players from Spain and Europe for one week. The event aims to raise funds to save children’s lives in developing countries by collaborating with Gavi Alliance. They are attempting to implement a child’s vaccination program against measles.
José María García Urbano, Mayor of Estepona announced the upcoming event, alongside Juan Jesús Bernal, Provincial Deputy of Culture and Sports. Also present were Luis Calderón, the director of the Lions Club Mijas and Marbella from 2009 to 2011, Luis Calderón and Volker Bernhardt, contributor to the foundation.
The Deputy of Culture and Sports recalled during the presentation today that, according to the latest study presented at the Golf Travel Market last November, 28.5% of European tourists who play golf outside their countries picked Spain as their destination of choice. Of these, 12.7% go to Costa del Sol Marbella area. “Our area accounts for half the European golf tourists that choose our country to play golf”, he said today during the opening ceremony today.
García Urbano, Estepona’s Mayor announced that both the players and their companions will be staying at the Gran Hotel Elba Estepona and will participate in a parallel activities’ program so they can enjoy the excellencies of the town and surrounding areas, including its landmarks, museums and gastronomy.
Marbella Taxis provide taxi and minibus transfers from Malaga airport to Estepona and Marbella.
