Getting to Marbella by Train?

15 August 2014

The Minister of Public Works has announced that central government is now keen to extend the train along the western Costa del Sol and is currently studying alternatives for the route. They are also performing economic feasibility studies to the project which will bring the railway to the towns of Marbella and Estepona. Ana Pastor made this announcement in her speech during the opening ceremony of the subway that started operating in Malaga today.

Passengers who transfer from Malaga airport to Marbella, Puerto Banus and Estepona currently use taxi transfers or car hire in the main, but this would provide another option for many travelers.

Pastor explained that they have already completed a study to analyze the financial viability and.demand of the railway system, after she had inaugurated the Metro system in Malaga. Back in March of this year, on the occasion of the opening of the South Access to Malaga airport, she commented that central government was working on the technical feasibility study.

Ana Pastor commented that “Málaga is very much on Mariano Rajoy’s agenda” and emphasized the strong commitment of the current government to the Costa del Sol and Malaga. She has told the Andalucía government and the Málaga City Council the decision of her cabinet and RENFE to launch a single ticket to encourage commuting via subway and suburban train lines.
