Wednesday 6th November 2013

The Ministry of Development will transfer ownership of the service road that runs through San Pedro Alcántara on both sides of the underground, between mile markers 169 and 175 to the town of Marbella, for the installation of new equipment, such as a bus terminal, urban furnishings or kiosks.

This agreement was reached in a meeting held on Tuesday in Madrid, between the Director of Roads, Jorge Urrecho and the town’s major, Angeles Muñoz. During the meeting, several projects between the city and the department headed by Ana Pastor were discussed.

Another project discussed by Muñoz during this meeting was the project of improvement of interstate A7 and the service road between mile markers 183 and 188, as well as the new connection roads to the west and north of Marbella to the town center, through the variant of AP7. Other proposals included in the General Plan for Urban Development were discussed, such as access to the Costa del Sol Hospital via the turnpike.

Moreover, the mayor of Marbella also held a meeting with Minister of Tourism and Industry, José Manuel Soria, on Tuesday in order to enhance cooperation between the Government and the town council to promote the Marbella. Marbella’s mayor insisted that it is "important” that Marbella will be presented as a “national tourist reference" in external publicity campaigns led by the Government through Turespaña.

Muñoz believes that congress tourism in the city should be considered further, as well as issues related to promotional strategies and proposed tourist development. She also proposed the need to advance in areas of interest to the tourism sector such as golf courses and the hotel industry competitiveness.

Marbella Taxis operate a high level, low cost airport transfer service from Malaga airport which further adds to the competitiveness of Marbella as a whole.
